Furniture Store Makeover: Wayfair Homepage Redesign

Objective: Redesign Wayfair’s homepage to establish a clear visual hierarchy that enhances user engagement, highlights featured products, and encourages interaction with calls to action.

Problem Identification: Wayfair’s original homepage faced several design challenges that impacted user experience and engagement:

  • Lack of Visual Hierarchy: Nearly every element shared a similar size, color, and typography, causing key information to get lost and making it difficult for users to quickly locate promotions or featured products.

  • Overwhelming Content Structure: With multiple competing elements on a single page, the user’s attention was dispersed, diminishing the effectiveness of calls to action.

  • Unclear Product Highlights: The lack of distinction between product categories and promotional sections led to user confusion and missed opportunities for product discovery.

Design Solution:

To address these issues, I focused on creating a visually structured and user-friendly homepage that guides users through the content in an intuitive way. My redesign approach involved these main strategies:

Establishing a Visual Hierarchy:

Enhanced Prominent Sections: Positioned key promotions with larger, high-contrast backgrounds for visibility.

Intentional Sizing and Spacing: Varied element sizes and adjusted spacing to guide user flow

Color Differentiation: Used contrasting colors to separate sections, enhancing focus on key areas.

Highlighting Key Products and Promotions:

Dedicated Product Categories: Added sections for “Top Rated Items” and “Fantastic Deals” to highlight popular products and encourage browsing.

Streamlined Call-to-Action Buttons: Refined buttons like “Shop Now” with high-contrast colors for easier interaction and faster decision-making.

Outcome:

The redesigned homepage creates a more engaging and user-friendly shopping experience. Key results include:

  • Improved User Engagement: Users are now guided through a logical, visually appealing layout that directs attention to featured products and promotions.

  • Higher Click-Through Rate on Promotions: By emphasizing calls to action and using distinctive colors for promotional sections, users are more inclined to interact with offers.

  • Enhanced Brand Perception: The clean, modern design aligns with Wayfair’s brand identity, creating a more professional and inviting online storefront that encourages users to explore products further.
