The assignment

In this fictional scenario, the process of switching user profiles is way too cumbersome, especially for small children. Switching profiles can take up to 10 taps. It is also hard do distinguise between children accounts and adult accounts.

Challenge

Streamline the profile switching process and reduce the amount och klicks to switch profiles.

Create a clear visual differense between adult- and kid- accounts.

Design

I decided to focus on designing a tablet interface since that is usually the type of device kids use nowadays. I opted for a familiar layout that doesn′t deviate too much from what people are used to.

After testing the prototype on my kids, I concluded that a larger header with a large user avatar made it much easier for them to find how to switch to their profile.

For the kid′s view, I went for the same basic design but with a bright, playful watercolor aesthetic, an altered logo and a slightly larger play button.

Adding new profiles and accessing the profile settings is easily done from the profile select screen.
