PawsUp - Dog Walking App Case Study
Overview
Paws Up is a mobile app that helps dog owners find reliable dog walkers near their area. The primary goal is to help owners connect with a trustworthy walker to rely on their services when in need.
The Problem
How can we help dog owners find reliable dog walkers when in need? It's very hard to trust a stranger to take care of your furry family member. Dog owners want someone that is responsible, has positive reviews, and great with communication.
Goals
User: Search for available walkers near their area
User: Simple yet detailed view of the dog walker's profile
User: Able to book appointments easily
Design Process
User Research
After interviewing and doing surveys, the major pattern that I found is users being able to find walkers they can trust through reviews or references and having not many options near their area.
"Trust, reliability, responsibility, communication"
"Positive reviews, accurate info, references"
"Trusting a stranger, background check, how true the reviews are."
"The safety of my dogs and valuables in my house."
Competitive Analysis
I reviewed two very popular dog walking apps, Rover and Wag!. They are both great apps so I wanted to research if users have any issues and see how I differentiate from these two popular apps.
User Flow
Wireframes
I created simple wireframes based on the user flow to see if the placement looked user friendly. I wanted to create easy to use wireframes where users were having an issue with.
Visual Design
I researched and created a moodboard to see what color palette would go well with the app. I wanted a casual, friendly, and warm vibe. With the feedbacks I've received I created high-fidelity wireframes and concentrated on screens users wanted to see.
Prototype
Tested the prototypes to see how smooth the flow were and received helpful feedbacks on how it could be changed.
"Text should be consistent in color. Your dog profile screen has the text all black while the others are greyed out."
"For your dog profile screen, I think changing the box size for health/behavioral would look better. Probably the same sizes as the others."
"On top of your message screen, you should space those out so it doesnt look cluttered."
"Since this is a dog walker app, I would like to at least see the scheduling or calendar screen."
Final Prototype Video
Results
The response to the flow for the final design was satisfactory. After receiving feedbacks and editing, the final results for the visual design had good comments. The design was well received because it was a simple and straight to the point. Dog walker's profile screen had positive feedback on what users wanted to see on that specific screen.
I also received feedbacks on what users would also like to see in the future; Dog Owner & Dog profile page, walker's references/reviews screen, and adding more services provided for pets.
