Jaunty Midnight Umbrella

HOPE YOU’RE HAVING A GOOD TIME AT IT, FRIENDS. While I’m still on the job hunt (howdy to anybody hiring a community-focused design communicator and/or typographic enthusiast), I've taken a breath to put a fresh coat of paint on the Midnight Umbrella website and branding. Always weird designing for yourself, but that’s the task at hand.

Had an opportunity to get RIGHT on into the typographic weeds, and decided to kern the new Midnight Umbrella wordmark letterforms a bit more—I think at this point we’re down to the atomic level.

I know I've said it before, but I’ll gladly say it again—goodness gracious, I love tight-not-touching Helvetica or, in this case, Neue Haas Grotesk. Bold, to be precise. It’s a chameleon. It can be serious—but it can also be friendly, and affable. All it took was swapping in some custom round diacritics and punctuation. Now it’s affable, amiable, and amicable AF. I heard that’s terminology that teenagers and designer-types use.
